The Izaak Walton League of America Inc Sioux Falls Chapter is a local conservation club and members of the state and National Izaak Walton League of America.
The Sioux Falls Izaak Walton League chapter was chartered in 1925. It is the oldest and most respected conservation club in South Dakota. The clubhouse was built in 1955 and is located Northeast of Sioux Falls in a secluded, quiet country setting.
The Sioux Falls Chapter dedicates efforts to support our mission statement with the following:
· The conservation efforts of the club include water testing and biological testing of nearby streams and waterways, planting trees, and educating the public on water issues, evasive species, and soil concerns. The club participates in the Sioux Falls Water Festival to educate youth on water quality.
· The chapter supports youth education in conservation and water quality. The club supports several youth shooting groups that teach the safe and effective way to handle guns and ammunition. With this comes responsibility of the youth to learn to respect and cherish their gun shooting experiences. Shooting is an individual sport and all youth participate regardless of skill level. Cub and Boy Scouts meet at the facility and enjoy the outdoor atmosphere provided at the club. The facility is also enjoyed by a local 4-H group. Gun safety programs have also used the facility to educate youth on safety, hunting and shooting.
· Competitive trap shooting is offered to youth and adults and as the youth become skilled with their shooting often participate alongside adult competitors. Trap shooting is a favorite pastime for many adults and serves as their way of enjoying time in the outdoors with family and friends.
· The Izaak Walton Clubhouse is host to Izaak Walton meetings, conservation meetings, weddings, reunions, company picnics, and other social events. These events enjoy a picturesque setting and vintage charm for their special event.
· Funds raised from these events are used to support conservation efforts by the club and by other conservations organizations. These funds are used to support our efforts of youth education and youth trap shooting. Funding is also used to keep our facility, and trap ranges up to date, making our organization viable for the future of the club.
